Angela Thacker

Angela “Angie” Thacker graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1982. As a star athlete on the Girls’ Track team, she excelled in several events. She pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska, earning a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education in 1987. During her tenure, Ms. Thacker contributed to Nebraska’s championship track teams as a sprinter and long jumper. She was also part of the 1984 United States Olympic track team in Los Angeles, CA. For the past thirty-five years, Ms. Thacker has served as the Controller for several companies. Below is a list of some of Ms. Thacker’s achievements in track and field and in the business sector:

Roosevelt High School (1978-1982)

  • June 1980: At the AAU Junior Olympic Meet for 15–16-year-olds, she claimed first place in the 100-yard dash, 200-yard dash, and the 400-yard run, setting records in the 200-yard (26.1 seconds) and 400-yard (57.3 seconds) events.
  • Thacker led Roosevelt to third place finishes in the Girl’s Class 4A Track and Field State Championships in both 1981 and 1982. This is the best performances in school history. She scored all thirty-eight points for Roosevelt in both years.
  • May 1981: At the Missouri State Girls’ Class 4 Track Championships, she took first place in the 100-meter dash, setting a record at 11.67 seconds that stood for 18 years until 1999. Her record is now the fourth fastest in Missouri high school girls’ track history. She also won the 200-yard dash and the 400-yard run, took second place in the Long Jump.
  • Named to the Post Dispatch All Metro Girl’s Track Team in 1981 and 1982 for the 100-yard and 200-yard dash and the Long Jump.
  • She was named Roosevelt’s 1981 St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete.
  • In addition to track, Ms. Thacker participated in field hockey, cheerleading, served as Class Vice President, was a member of the Honors Society, Homecoming Court, and Drama Club.

University of Nebraska (1982-1986)

  • A fifteen-time Big Eight Conference Champion in indoor events for all four years, and a three-time champion in the 300-yard dash and long jump. A fourteen-time All-American in both individual and relay events.
  • In August 1984, she set a Nebraska indoor record with a long jump of 21′ 9 1/4″. Her outdoor long jump record stands at 22′ 4 1/4″.
  • She was part of Nebraska’s outdoor 4×100 relay team that broke the record with a time of 43.44 seconds.
  • Her individual sprint and long jump performances contributed to Nebraska’s NCAA Indoor National Championships victories in 1983 and 1984. Her thirty-five points in 1983 rank as the second highest in the school’s history.
  • In 1985, she set the NCAA indoor record for the 300-yard run with a time of 33.82 seconds.
  • In 1986, she was named the “Most Valuable Performer” at the Big Eight Conference Indoor Women’s Track Championships.
  • Her personal bests include 11.39 seconds in the 100 meters, 23.13 seconds in the 200 meters, and a 22′ 4.25″ long jump.
  • A 2022 Inductee into the University of Nebraska’s Sports Hall of Fame.

1984 Summer Olympics

  • Thacker placed fourth in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.78 meters (22’3”). She missed a Bronze medal by less than an inch. Track phenom Jackie Joyner Kersee finished in fifth place.

Business Career

  • Thacker is currently the Controller*  for Cloverland Dairy, Inc., Baltimore City, MD. (2020 – present) Cloverland is a large, privately owned business provided dairy products in the Mid Atlantic area to schools, hospitals, institutions, restaurants, and numerous retail businesses. It has over 350 employees.
  • Controller, Market Research, Inc., Rockville, MD. (2018-2020) Like the name suggests, they provide data to businesses in a wide variety of sectors to give them an unbiased approach to identifying the research needed to make effective strategic decisions.
  • North American Controller at CEB, Inc. (Corporate Executive Board), Arlington, VA (2002-2017). CEB was a leading provider of best practices and talent management insights to its clients, with 1800 employees and revenues of $1 billion. It was acquired by Gartner in 2017, transforming it into a multi-billion dollar enterprise.

Ms. Thacker’s numerous accomplishments in athletics and business make her a role model for all Rough Riders and an asset to the Roosevelt High School community. We are thrilled to induct her into the Alumni Association’s Hall of Fame.

*Corporate Controllers are responsible for managing all aspects of a company’s finances, which may include payroll, bookkeeping, accounting, and budgeting. Corporate controllers collaborate with other leaders to make financial decisions that contribute to the company’s growth.
